Preface: I don’t consider myself a sony fan boy. But, I broke down and bought god of war. The first two were too FUN for me not to. I’m not disappointed in this one, either – so far it’s been fantastic. And, there are byproducts involved. Knowing my old 2.x? firmware would need an upgrade, i got the long idle psp into update mode, and wow – Sony’s been working here.
When the psp first came out I was impressed mostly with it’s screen and it’s potential. And then it took a long time for anything else to really break out. Since then, we got a camera (er..) gps (eh…) and a browser (meh, terrible input, rendering speed & rendering errors, useless for sites w/o pda versions, mostly…) – as I don’t care about the camera or gps, let’s skip to the meat: the latest psp browser not only renders much faster, but it works with a wide variety of sites (even wordrpess sites, like this one, render correctly!). Google maps goes into a small, non-ajax mode, but still shows street view mini pics, the map, zoom and pan, and it works. Gmail and google services stay logged in. I was able to view my picasa albums (via the links in one of the first posts below) and never had the “not enough memory” error even when browsing through 85 thumbnails, with another tab running gmail (again, non ajax, but still, pretty good! – just need to get a better input / copy / paste schema…) – it’s fairly impressive what Sony’s accomplished. And that’s just one thing – I also noticed:
All in all, pretty impressive. Still on the wishlist: better input scheme / tool. Whether it’s the thumb-keyboard we saw ages ago or a laser-shark-widget, this input makes anything but casual surfing labor intensive. Good job Sony! Great job GOW team – great game.
I had to take a break from sculpting – had a nasty bit of skin irritation crop up and wanted to make sure it wasn’t apoxy/polymer clay related. Meanwhile, trying to improve my concept-art skills, and will be posting some of that soon, along with some new (er, newly uploaded?) photography.
