Spore (from the makers of Sim… everything) just released their first demo “creature creator”. A preview of the full game coming later this year, creature creator is nuts. You’re basically handed a kit of arms, legs, hands, eyes and other parts with which to build a creature. It’s very compelling and open ended, and even lets you save animations and email pics. Here’s an example:

This unholy red bastard is the product of just a few minutes play. Just think of what your twisted mind could come up with….

Stan Winston pioneered the art creature FX. From the Terminator to Jurassic Park and beyond, he consistently showed an uncommon genius. The man made monsters, and we loved him for it. Thanks for scaring the bejeezus out of us, Stan.  It’s strange thing to thank someone for, but I think that a good (safe) scare from dinosaurs or rampaging robots helps us cope with this world, and we’re better for it.

w/o anything on the LED itself, the light is very direct, and is going to require some kind of diffusion. I was able to shoot it in the bathroom on a long exposure, though, and it looked pretty good:

The nightlight assembly (photo sensor, resistor & capacitor package) below is still white – it’s going to get a facade of aves done in a rocky-texture to hide the back wiring and support post. This will also help firm up the entire piece. That, diffusion of the LED, and a coating of apoxie over the LED holder are all the modeling tasks remaining, and I’m looking forward to painting him in some dark blues, light (pasty belly) tones & perhaps a bit of glow in the dark mixed in (doing an experiment tonight w/ acrylic paint and glow paint together… we’ll see….

Finally, this is going to be sold… EBAY or ETSY? Suggestions?
